Why vegan zombies? We asked the creators of Night of the Vegan to give us some behind-the-scenes insider information about the project, their thoughts on zombies, and what they have coming next.

We are delighted to have acquired the critically acclaimed fantasy novel Our Lady of the Islands by Shannon Page (A Sword in The Sun) and the late Jay Lake. A celebration of female friendship and cooperation, the novel is a feminist exploration of gender roles and expectations, as a woman is granted powers that society considers the domain of men.

If you pay much attention to publishing announcements, you may wonder why you’re hearing about books coming out two to three years in advance. “I’ll forget about that by the time it comes out!” you may think. You’re not alone. As a reader, I’m right there with you, even though I know why things are this far ahead. (And though I work inside the business, I’m happy to defer to a real publishing expert, Nora Roberts, author of 215 books, who “personally explained” the process to an impatient fan not long ago.)

Being Editor in Chief at Outland is only one of the hats I wear; I’m also a reader and reviewer, and I’ve been lucky enough to cover some of what I read over at Den of Geek. In summer 2019, I coined the hashtag #Stitchwitchery to describe a phenomenon that fascinated me: the combination of magic and sewing, which was explored in two current series, Rowenna Miller’s “The Unraveled Kingdom” and Elizabeth Lim’s “Blood of Stars.” When both of those series concluded this summer, there was no question I’d want to read them!

But sometimes promoting your own creation.. and yourself… can be daunting, especially for artists who specialize in being artists and not in marketing and sales.
