In Short: Two young embalmers must save their city from the influence of a cult, determined to rob them of the Risen, undead who are humanity’s greatest protectors.

What’s It About: The world of Berun suffers cycles of light and darkness: for ninety years, the suns shine on the planet, keeping the monsters that live below at bay. But then, for ten years, the world is plunged into darkness, and the Beneathers return to battle humanity. The only thing staving off certain death for humans are the Risen, undead who stand between the Beneathers and their charges. In the city of Kamteh, a cult preaching the destruction of the dead has gained power, proclaiming that only if all the dead are destroyed and prevented from rising will the cycle of light and darkness stop. It falls on the city’s last embalmers, and old man and his two young apprentices, to preserve some of the dead—or when darkness falls, Kamteh will be overrun by the monsters that live below… This original graphic novel introduces readers to the World of Nightfell, further explored in the novel Nightfell: The Risen.
