Outland Entertainment is happy to announce the acquisition of the transmedia rights to the turn-based tactical RPG Scarlet Republics. We will bring its Renaissance-inspired world to new life in tabletop gaming. Scarlet Republics was developed by Audacity Interactive, a Denmark-based independent game studio. The project was originally created via a successful Kickstarter campaign, but financial and pandemic pressures led to its cancellation.
"I was an original backer on the Scarlet Republics Kickstarter, and when I found out that they were going to have to shut down, I thought it would be a shame to let such a fascinating world disappear,” says Jeremy Mohler, Founder of Outland Entertainment. “So, I'm really excited that Olmo Rauba decided to work with us to develop it into a roleplaying game!"
The Scarlet Republics Role-Playing Game will be as gritty as the original. It will utilize a popular percentile-based system rooted in the history of tabletop role-playing games. The game will be skill-based, allowing players a great deal of freedom when creating their characters to explore the world of Scarlet Republics. It is a grim and dangerous place, and the gameplay for the tabletop version will reflect those qualities.
“Scarlet Republics is the type of rich, lore-filled world that appeals to tabletop gamers, and I am excited to be developing the rules that will allow gamers to explore this world,” says Christopher Helton, Games Director for Outland Entertainment. “My approach to the game is to balance the dangerous qualities of the world with player empowerment to create an exciting game for groups to play.”
Digital copies of the core Scarlet Republics Role-Playing Game will be first released to backers of the original Kickstarter project. Later, Outland Entertainment will follow with a general print and digital release. There are plans for supplemental releases that will follow the initial core book.
“It is a pleasure working with Outland Entertainment,” says Olmo Rauba of Audacity Interactive. “I am delighted that all the work we put into this will be carried on by Jeremy and Chris.”
