AN APOCALYPTIC WORLD
OF WEIRD SCIENCE & WEIRD FANTASY

The world was once made of iron.

Now, it is made of madness.

WRATH-BORN is set in “our” world… a version of our world far in the future… and then far in the future again… a world that was once heavily industrialized. Forests razed  by terrible harvesting machines. Factories and smokestacks—as tall as skyscrapers. The sun blotted out by churning clouds of smog.

Then, the world struck back.

Or so we thought.

The Naturalist Order, a gathering of shamans and mages worshiping “the Mother”—magical eco-terrorists dedicated to destroying “the Machine”--worked terrible rituals to strike at those who had ruined the world.

But… the Naturalists had been deceived!

The Mother was not an avatar of nature, but an avatar of chaos, imprisoned long ago. The rituals freed it from the Shadowcage, and it spilled into the world, corrupting and destroying everything it touched.

That was 1,000 years ago.

Nature… or a chaotic semblance of it… has spread over the world once more. The ruins of society’s factories are overgrown with strange plant-life and twisted monsters crawl from the dark places. Mankind has tried to rebuild, and they live in enclaves scattered through the madness. Warlords, twisted physically and mentally, compete for land and power, and they do not care who they crush in their endless wars.

Magic is feared and hated by all.

Especially necromancy.

So, of course, our characters are:

Cleodora (Cleo)

A young woman, small, pale, dressed in tattered black leathers and a witch-like hat. She is a powerful necromancer, wielding the power of the dead, sometimes conjuring spirits into the shape of the incomparable spirit-sword.

DEATH-METL

A hulking figure made of metal. An aging relic of the past. A mecha that accompanies Cleo, an unstoppable warrior. A machine, yes, but why does it bleed when injured?

Rafe

Resembling a red panda the size of a human child, Rafe is a thief and inventor.

These three wander the lands, acting at times as mercenaries, but they seek a fabled book—the Armageddonomicon, the Book of Calamity and Chaos, which was ripped apart and scattered to all corners of the world. With this book, they can cast the avatar of chaos back into the abyss and save the world.

Here’s the trick, though.

Cleo doesn’t want to save the world.

She wants to conquer it.
