Outland Entertainment announces a brand new edition of Allison Pang's dystopian, steampunk, fantasy adventure, Magpie's Song, the first of her IronHeart Chronicles.
They calls me Raggy Maggy
But I have no song to sing.
I’ve a ghost for a shadow
And a sparrow on the wing.
Nineteen-year-old Raggy Maggy struggles to survive in the slums of BrightStone, a city in the shadows of a floating technological wonder: Meridian, the nation that's conquered them. As a Moon Child, Maggy's part Meridian, but she and others like her are rejected by both Meridian and BrightStone alike. The only time they're valued is as a Tithe: because they're immune to a disease threatening BrightStone's citizens, they're chosen to lead the infected to the Pits, where the disease can be controlled.
But Maggy's not satisfied with her lot in life—and she's curious about the mysterious heart-shaped panel welded to her chest that marks her as different from her peers. When she discovers a Meridian-built clockwork dragon—and its murdered owner—she believes the creature could be her ticket to a better life. Instead, she becomes the prime suspect in the murder case. While she's on the run, an exiled doctor and a clanless Moon Child named Ghost offer to help her, but only if she can help them unravel the truth behind BrightStone's plague…
Pang's dystopian world blends clockwork technology and magic as a backdrop against a young woman's quest to save herself—and maybe the world. Readers who grew up with Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games or Marie Lu's Legend series are sure to be drawn into Maggy's world. Others may find the plague that impacts BrightStone reminiscent of the curse in Brandon Sanderson's early novel Elantris, and will root for Maggy's allies to find the truth behind its mysterious origin.
