The idea for these limited edition prints came to me the other day when I was looking through all these small, square images that Shannon and I had created. I was trying to figure out what to do with these.
I have a plan to use them for a sort of world-building book down the road a bit, but I wasn't quite ready to put that together, nor was there time before Planet Comicon to get them done.
One thing I have always liked were portfolio's and print plates - like Barry Windsor-Smith used to do, or what you could get from SQP back in the day (damn, I'm old). I thought - looking through those was always an experience.
I wanted to replicate that somehow.
After talking with Shannon and my wife, Michelle (owner of Two Tone Press), we came up with the idea to collect the series of illustrated plates, along with a cover page talking about Into the Outlands, and a limited letterpress plate based on our most recent illustration (the sea monster in the ocean). All banded together.
When you open the envelope containing the prints, you pull out a the whole pack and you slide them out of the band, to reveal a cover plate talking about the project and it becomes a whole process of revealing all the different items.
I think this came out really great!
