Fans of delicious baked goods and majestic dragons, unite! Outland Entertainment's latest all-ages card game extravaganza is now funding on Kickstarter!
Based on the illustrated children’s book of the same name, Cupcake Dragon is an all-ages game in which players take on the role of village mayors working to appease the local dragons with contributions of loot and tasty treats. The game is designed by Wendy and Andrew Vogel, with illustrations by Aaron Palsmeier. The original children’s book, also published by Outland Entertainment, was written by Jeremy Mohler and Alana Joli Abbott.
Gameplay is simple and fast. Players compete for resources using a variety of beautifully designed cards and tokens. A typical game completes in under 30 minutes.
Development of the game is complete! This campaign will help take the edge off those always sticky printing costs. Rewards include the game itself as well as the accompanying book!
That book, by the way, is just as freakin gorgeous as the card game. Palsmeier's watercolors really bring the story of perseverance to life. And we've got copies signed by the authors!

What's your favorite cupcake?
Alana: Oooh, that's so tough, but I'll say red velvet. I love a good red velvet cupcake with a cream cheese frosting.
Who's your favorite dragon?
Alana: This is a mean question. There are many, many great dragons in fiction and mythology! Today, my pick is Haneul, a dragon cadet in the Space Forces in Yoon Ha Lee's excellent middle grade novel, Dragon Pearl. Ask me tomorrow and I'll give you a different answer!
That was a mean question and I'm sorry. Here's a better one. What's something important kids can get out of Cupcake Dragon?
Alana: I think stories have value as stories--without there being a necessary moral to a tale. But I do love how the two girls in the story take charge and persevere, even when the adults don't know what to do. Kids already know they can do that, though, so maybe the real lesson is for adults to listen to their kids when they have great ideas.
True or false: problems on Pern would've been solved much faster if the dragon riders had had access to high quality baked goods.
Alana: So many problems can be solved with regular access to high quality baked goods; I think dragon riders really should get their fair share!
What's your favorite part of the Cupcake Dragon game?
Alana: There are a lot of things to love about the game, but my favorite so far is just looking at all of Aaron Palsmeier's art. It was a joy to see his art in progress as the picture book came together, and even more exciting to see the iterations of his work on all the cards.

Cupcake Dragon is everything you need for a fun, fulfilling time gaming, reading, and learning. Snacks are sold separately, though; we haven't expanded into that line of business quite yet; you can't print a cupcake, at least not one that tastes good.
