It was 2015 when the visitors made their first contact with humans. Bearing gifts of great technological significance, they approached the leaders of every nation in an apparent effort to foster peace. While this visitors’ aim may never be understood, it was clear that each nation grew to covet the others’ gifts.

Bickering and posturing between nations escalated as cultural and religious institutions crumbled under the visitors’ influence. Amidst the increasing level of chaos, an aggressive new religion called The Order began to emerge as a great political power. The world became polarized between believers and non-believers, The Order and the Farcooth, them and us. Tensions increased, armies were massed, and at the most critical moment, the visitors left without a word. Flying on borrowed wings, humanity fell like Icarus, plunging into a Dark Age.

Bloody battles waged on lines drawn across every continent. Using the visitors’ gifts, both sides devoted tremendous energy toward technological advancement in effort to gain military advantage. Great underground fortresses bore more and more terrible creations. For nearly twenty years, the battles raged, killing millions.

After a desperate effort to end the wars, the last surviving Farcooth regimen suffered a crippling defeat. Forced to surrender, they were marched west to be governed by Order proxies. These proxies, called Magistrates, focused on converting the Farcooth, leaving rule of law to the outlaws. Living in the shadow of the mammoth pillars of Nirvana, bounty hunters and guns for hire became their only means of justice.

This is where our story begins.
