THE UNMADE MAN
Central to Baeg Tobar is the story of The Unmade Man, a novel by Daniel Tyler Gooden.
For Boruin, the past is simply dark. There is a ribbon of runes that turns across his body. He cannot read them, but they hold strange magics, too dangerous to use unknown. There is nothing in his mind before waking on the Nefazo Trade Highway thirty years past. The woman standing above him on the deserted road offers her own mysteries. Wraethe is moon-driven, awake under Diun’s shine and dead to the world during the day. Her temper and lust for blood often places her near the edge of chaos and mindless rage. Though a killer by trade, there is still heat in Wraethe’s heart, no matter how deeply hidden. A Mana’Olai assassin and short grave robber complete the small band that works across the jungle borders of Nefazo. Sometime thieves, bodyguards, strong-arms, diplomats, the crew honors what contracts pay.
Boruin’s band has done well–until they meet the child. The acquisition of the boy has turned Boruin back to his long unanswered questions. The quiet boy’s eyes are sharp, seeing the shifting tattoos where others see nothing. His touch turns them down Boruin’s arms and brings the spells to life. Where is this boy from? Who contracted Boruin to bring him out of the deep jungle? Why does he seem to know so much about that which is hidden? All other obligations are disregarded as Boruin turns back to his past. Contracts are broken, friendships are pulled apart, and lives are lost to discover the man that was once unmade.

About Daniel Tyler Gooden
Born in Independence, Missouri in 1975, Gooden was raised, along with his brother and two sisters, out in the country east of Kansas City. He graduated from Baker University in 1998 with a degree in English. In need of some adventure, Daniel moved to New Orleans, Louisiana in 1999. There he took his first paid writing job as a stringer for the L’Observateur, in St. John Parish. After football season was finished, Daniel was hired to cover all fields of reporting for St. James Parish, located between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Writing stories from human interest to breaking news, Daniel was awarded a Louisiana Press Association Best Feature Award for one of his pieces.
In 2001, Daniel moved back to Missouri with his now wife, Lisa. He took a position as staff writer for Ingram’s Magazine, writing business features until July of 2002, when he moved to part-time to concentrate on writing fiction. Daniel is now a stay-at-home father, caring for his two sons and devoting more time to his writing.
Daniel completed his first novel in January of 2004. His second, The Unmade Man, is available electronically at Amazon.com. He has published multiple short stories and is currently waiting for his first novel to rise out of the dust and edit itself. Writing fantasy and sci-fi stories is most enjoyable for Daniel, and when he is not writing, he enjoys growing trees and tomatoes and often travels to the Ozark Mountains for fishing, hunting and general rabble-rousing.
Daniel gives special thanks to his wife for her most gracious support in his endeavors, and his family and friends for keeping him grounded and entertained. His children deserve special thanks, for allowing him to return home and in-part to become a kid again himself.
